How this is calculated

Moving between percent and decimal is a multiply or divide by 100. A fraction becomes a decimal first, then a percent.

percent = decimal × 100 = (numerator / denominator) × 100

  1. From percent to decimal, divide by 100. 25% = 0.25.
  2. From decimal to percent, multiply by 100. 0.125 = 12.5%.
  3. From a fraction, divide then multiply by 100. 3/8 = 0.375 = 37.5%.

Once you have the decimal, finding a percent of a number is just multiplication. 0.25 × 80 = 20, which is 25% of 80.
