Tip Calculator
Use this calculator to take a percent of a bill, add it on, and optionally split the total. The tip itself is the same math as percent of a number.
How this is calculated
The tip is a percent of the bill. The total is bill plus tip. Per person is that total divided by the number of people.
tip = bill × (tip percent / 100)
- 18% of 45 is 45 × 0.18 = 8.10. Total is 45 + 8.10 = 53.10.
- 20% of 60 is 12. Total is 72. Split 3 ways is 24 per person.
- If you leave the split blank, the calculator treats it as 1 person.
This tool does not add sales tax. Calculate tax first if your bill is pre-tax, then tip on the amount your table is using.
Not the same as
A tip is a percent of a bill, not a tax and not a discount.
- Sales tax Tax is added by a rate on a taxable amount. Tip is optional and uses whatever bill total you enter. Open the sales tax calculator
