How this is calculated

Divide marks obtained by total marks, then multiply by 100.

(marks obtained / total marks) × 100

  1. 87 / 100 × 100 = 87%.
  2. 42 / 50 × 100 = 84%.
  3. 36 / 40 × 100 = 90%.

This is not a percentile. 90% means 90 marks per 100 possible, not that you outscored 90% of other students.

Not the same as

A marks percentage is a score, not a rank.

Marks questions

87%.

84%.

No. 90% is your marks over the total. The 90th percentile is a rank in a group.

The formula still runs and returns more than 100%. That usually means extra credit, or a mistyped total.
