Marks Percentage Calculator
Use this calculator to turn marks obtained and total marks into a percentage. It is the what-percent formula with exam labels. A percentage score is not a percentile rank.
How this is calculated
Divide marks obtained by total marks, then multiply by 100.
(marks obtained / total marks) × 100
- 87 / 100 × 100 = 87%.
- 42 / 50 × 100 = 84%.
- 36 / 40 × 100 = 90%.
This is not a percentile. 90% means 90 marks per 100 possible, not that you outscored 90% of other students.

87%.
84%.
No. 90% is your marks over the total. The 90th percentile is a rank in a group.
Use the average percentage calculator, not this one.
The formula still runs and returns more than 100%. That usually means extra credit, or a mistyped total.
